Meet #2: AWAY – Kings Charter Tidal Waves vs Raintree Rapids, Wednesday, June 28

The Kings Charter Tidal Waves will face the Raintree Rapids for our third swim meet of the season on Wednesday, June 28. The meet will start at 6:00pm and families can enter the pool deck no earlier than 4:30pm. The make-up date is Thursday, June 29th.

Food Drive in Honor of Lucia Bremer: Raintree is hosting a Food Drive this meet in honor of Lucia Bremer. They are pairing with the Henrico Food Bank. There will be boxes at Check In to drop off donations. Most requested items are pasta, pasta sauce, peanut butter, jelly, mac n cheese, canned corn, canned green beans and canned beans.

Location: Raintree Swim & Racquet Club, 1703 Raintree Drive. Richmond, VA 23238

Attendance: Please remember to declare for the meet by indicating if your swimmer will attend. You should receive an email when a meet is accepting entries. You can indicate your attendance by clicking “attending” or “not attending” for the Meet on the “View Meets” tab in the Parent Portal.

Parking: There is a parking lot available, but if it does become filled, you can park on Raintree Drive. Traditionally, people park on the same side of Raintree Drive as the club and start parking “up the hill”. There are townhouses/condos that are adjacent to Raintree, and you SHOULD NOT park in their lot or you will be ticketed.

Seating: The Kings Charter area will be on the pool deck that is adjacent to the diving well and lane 6. There will be a couple of rows of chairs, but please bring deck chairs for your use. In addition, there is a big grassy area next to the pool deck seating called “Luke’s Lawn”. This is also saved for Kings Charter, and you will need chairs for that area too. As a reminder, the diving well, shallow end, and baby pool are off limits during the swim meet. The “carpeted” deck next to the lake is designated for Raintree families.

Check-In: Please have swimmers check-in no earlier than 4:30pm. Check-in for swimmers and volunteers must be completed by 5:15pm. A table will be set up at the entrance of the pool for check-in.

Warm-ups: Away team warm-ups are at 5:20pm.

Clerk of the Course: The Clerk of the Course is located just past the starting blocks next to the diving area.

Concessions: They will have a grill that will be offering the following menu: hamburgers, hot dogs, corn dog nuggets, grilled chicken salads, grilled cheese, BBQ
sandwiches, homemade chips, drinks, candy, and other snacks.

Weather: In the event of inclement weather we may have to exit the pool deck until conditions improve. Lifeguards are trained on and responsible for making a determination when the pool and the pool deck must be closed, prioritizing the safety of all present. If the deck is closed, please support the life guards and help clear the facility promptly. If we have to clear the deck due to the weather, you may wait in your cars. Please ensure you have signed up for Remind to get weather updates. Instructions can be found on our website under the Documents Tab.

We will have a New Swimmer Evaluation this Sunday, May 14 at 1pm – 2:30pm at the indoor pool at Burkwood Swim & Racquet Club.

Who: Any NEW swimmer to Team or any child interested in joining Rising Waves Pre-Team. Even if you have already signed your child up for Swim Team, if they are new this year, we’d like you to come so that the coaches are able to confirm they are ready for Team.

Sign Up: In order to make the evaluations as smooth as possible, please sign up here so that we know how many will be attending.

What to bring: Come in your bathing suit ready to swim. Please bring goggles, a towel and a change of clothes for after if you would like.

When: Sunday, May 14 at 1pm – 2:30pm. Please come sometime during that time frame as your schedule allows. Evaluations should not take long so please plan to stay until your child is done.
If you can not make it this Sunday, please let us know by emailing kctidalwaves@gmail.com. There is currently no make up date scheduled but we can keep you informed on next steps.

Evaluation criteria: In order to be on the Tidal Waves swim team, the child must be able to swim the length of the pool unassisted. The Rising Waves Pre-Team is geared towards children that are close to swimming the full length but can’t quite make it just yet. Children on Pre-Team must be able to demonstrate that they can swim most of the length of the pool (maybe stopping once or twice), ability to comfortably place their face in the water, ability to jump in (and come up unassisted), and must exhibit some attempt at a stroke in order to participate. Please note, the Rising Waves Pre-Team is NOT swim lessons and your child maybe asked to seek additional training prior to participation in either Tidal Waves Swim Team or Rising Waves Pre-Team. The Coaches will make the determination on final placement of each swimmer.

As a reminder, Swim Team practices will begin Monday, May 22 and Pre-Team practice will begin Tuesday, June 20. If your child has already registered for Swim Team but it is determined that they are a better fit for Rising Waves Pre-Team, refunds will be issued for the differing amount.

We look forward to meeting our new swimmers this Sunday! Please reach out with any questions.
