We will have a New Swimmer Evaluation this Sunday, May 14 at 1pm – 2:30pm at the indoor pool at Burkwood Swim & Racquet Club.
Who: Any NEW swimmer to Team or any child interested in joining Rising Waves Pre-Team. Even if you have already signed your child up for Swim Team, if they are new this year, we’d like you to come so that the coaches are able to confirm they are ready for Team.
Sign Up: In order to make the evaluations as smooth as possible, please sign up here so that we know how many will be attending.
What to bring: Come in your bathing suit ready to swim. Please bring goggles, a towel and a change of clothes for after if you would like.
When: Sunday, May 14 at 1pm – 2:30pm. Please come sometime during that time frame as your schedule allows. Evaluations should not take long so please plan to stay until your child is done.
If you can not make it this Sunday, please let us know by emailing email@example.com. There is currently no make up date scheduled but we can keep you informed on next steps.
Evaluation criteria: In order to be on the Tidal Waves swim team, the child must be able to swim the length of the pool unassisted. The Rising Waves Pre-Team is geared towards children that are close to swimming the full length but can’t quite make it just yet. Children on Pre-Team must be able to demonstrate that they can swim most of the length of the pool (maybe stopping once or twice), ability to comfortably place their face in the water, ability to jump in (and come up unassisted), and must exhibit some attempt at a stroke in order to participate. Please note, the Rising Waves Pre-Team is NOT swim lessons and your child maybe asked to seek additional training prior to participation in either Tidal Waves Swim Team or Rising Waves Pre-Team. The Coaches will make the determination on final placement of each swimmer.
As a reminder, Swim Team practices will begin Monday, May 22 and Pre-Team practice will begin Tuesday, June 20. If your child has already registered for Swim Team but it is determined that they are a better fit for Rising Waves Pre-Team, refunds will be issued for the differing amount.
We look forward to meeting our new swimmers this Sunday! Please reach out with any questions.
Registration for the team has begun on our website. Register by May 12 to get your name printed on the team t-shirt! Swim team practices will start on May 22 at Lakeview Pool. We can’t wait to get back in the water! In the meantime, we’ve been busy planning a lot of fun events for our swimmers including favorites like the Mock Meet, Team Pool Party and an end of season event, as well as new Pre-Season events like an All Parent information session, and a new swimmer evaluation and introductory practice. Information about these events and schedules can be found on the website.
We are still looking for someone to take over the Fundraising position. There would be an opportunity to job shadow the current committee member this year to learn the role. Please send us an email if you would like to learn more!
We are excited for a new season with returning coaches, and a few new faces!
MEET THE HEAD COACHES
Andrew Kiss, Lead Head Coach
My name is Andrew Kiss and I am beyond excited to return for my 6th year on the Kings Charter Tidal Wave’s coaching staff. I am a student at the College of William and Mary studying Business Analytics. I have been around the sport of swimming for the majority of my life and have found the water to be a place of growth and excellence. The Tidal Waves embody this energy and passion, and I cannot wait to help lead this team towards success.
Wendy Benson, Head Coach of Administration
My name is Wendy Benson. I am currently attending VCU and I am majoring in Fashion Merchandising! I have been involved with the KC Tidal Waves since I was 8 years old and I have been coaching for about 5 years. I always enjoy getting to know all of our swimmers and overall having a fun summer season!
Winter is here, but it is time to start thinking about summer swim. Preparations have already begun for the 2023 Kings Charter Tidal Waves swim season! So why would you want to be a Tidal Wave this summer??
The best Coaching staff led by Andrew Kiss and Wendy Benson!
First chance to get in the water! Swim practice starts the TWO Mondays BEFORE Memorial Day, so you can beat the crowd into the pool.
Tidal Waves’ seasons are PACKED with pool parties, games, good food, team cheers, a banquet, spirit nights and FUN, FUN, and more FUN! Being a part of the team is also a great way to get to know other kids in the neighborhood.
Last year we had over 150 kids on the team. Our size and success has allowed us to compete in Division II in our league, meaning even bigger and better meets!
Swim Buddies give the older kids a chance to help teach the younger swimmers and give the younger swimmers (and new families) a contact as they learn what to expect. And they are FUN for both!
Parents – this is a great opportunity for you, too, to get to know your neighbors!
Learning to swim builds a kid’s confidence and can even save a life. While rare, accidental drownings do happen and newer swimmers will rapidly develop their skills being a part of a swim team.
We will hold our yearly Open House and swimsuit fitting on March 22nd, 2023 in the Clubhouse Great Room from 6p-8p. Registration will also open March 22nd.
We do have a few open committee positions, so get them before they’re gone!! We are looking for a person the take over Fundraising, Website and Communications and Secretary. Please send us an email to inquire about positions.
We need a few extra helping hands in CERTIFIED positions. These require some online training and possibly a shadow training at a meet. These positions MUST be filled to run our meets. Please consider joining our trained crew and contact us by email below!!
